Screening of Oriental Medicnes for Protection against Cardiovascular Anaphylaxis in Pithed Rats (¥±)

Abstract
Differently from respiratory anaphylaxis responses, mediators responsible for cardiovascular responses are not clearly elucidated. Main characteristics of cardiovascular anaphylaxis includes hypotension and cardiac failure (arrhythmia and cardiac contraction failure). Numerous antagonistic substances such as to histamine, leucotrienes, platelet-activating factors, serotonin, bradykinin, prostaglandins have been tried, but none has been so successful.
As a resonable approach to prevent or treat diseases of unclear etiology, we intended to select active medicines from various oriental medical preparations through a random screening.
In this experiment, it was aimed to obtain basic data on anti-anaphylactic action of oriental medicines by examining medical preparations prescribed mainly for the treatment of allergy-related symptoms. To screen oriental medical preparations for anti-cardiovascular anaphylactic effects, in vivo pithed rat model was employed. We screened for anti-cardiovascular anaphylactic medicnes for which no single effective drug is available in the wesern medicine.
Out of fifteen oriental medicines, one medicine was found effective in ameliorating cardiovascular anaphylactic in pithed rat model.
